03 The Map Perspective

Developing foundational technologies to generalize marine biodiversity big data, and applied technologies to safeguard the richness of the ocean

Phase-1 theme

Biodiversity data from diverse observations is integrated into a common schema and applied to the optimal placement of marine protected areas (MPAs) and to analyzing ecosystem-degradation risk, providing evidence to inform policy decisions.

01 — Overview

Overview of the Initiative

We have converted marine natural environment data into big data and visualized the characteristics of marine biodiversity and natural capital. By spatially visualizing the “natural state” of coastal, offshore, and deep-sea areas, we are establishing a scientific foundation for the implementation of marine spatial planning and are publishing our findings in academic journals.
