{"id":13,"date":"2026-05-31T08:23:03","date_gmt":"2026-05-31T08:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/54.95.145.147\/?research_topic=theme-2-sato"},"modified":"2026-05-31T08:23:03","modified_gmt":"2026-05-31T08:23:03","slug":"theme-2-sato","status":"publish","type":"research_topic","link":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/research\/theme-2-sato\/","title":{"rendered":"A sustainable society where marine life and people coexist, realized through biologging"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Overview of the Initiative<\/h2>\n<p>At the core of our work is the <strong>Biologging intelligent Platform (BiP)<\/strong> , which shares, analyzes, and distributes \u2014 in a globally common format \u2014 the behavioral and environmental data collected by small data loggers attached to marine animals. Building on it, we are advancing real-world implementation across research, education, disaster prevention, and industry.<\/p>\n<h2>Key Results in FY2025<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Platform Expansion<\/strong> \u2014 Now supports 32 device models from 14 companies in Japan and abroad. We implemented a plugin that automatically classifies the flight modes of streaked shearwaters from acceleration data, and laid the groundwork for interoperability with Movebank.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scientific Findings<\/strong> \u2014 Migration-route analysis of 16 male loggerhead turtles showed that the Sanriku coastal waters are an important habitat during their growth phase (Fukuoka et al. 2026).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Real-World Implementation<\/strong> \u2014 Contributed to the planning of the Shikoku Aquarium's \u201cBiologging Exhibition\u201d (149,500 visitors) and launched two companion sites \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/bip-museum.com\">BiP Museum<\/a>\u30fb<a href=\"https:\/\/bip-earth.com\/intro\">The Great Adventure of Sea Animals<\/a> . Active users grew from 522 in September 2023 to 7,122 in December 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Future Outlook<\/h2>\n<p>By linking with Japan Meteorological Agency models to leverage over-ocean wind data, and by supplying data for uses such as offshore wind-power assessments, we will grow this into a data platform used on the front lines of disaster prevention and industry.<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-13","research_topic","type-research_topic","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research_topic\/13","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research_topic"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/research_topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research_topic\/13\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=13"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
