{"id":12,"date":"2026-05-31T08:23:03","date_gmt":"2026-05-31T08:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/54.95.145.147\/?research_topic=theme-1-takatsuka"},"modified":"2026-07-14T08:31:42","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T08:31:42","slug":"theme-1-takatsuka","status":"publish","type":"research_topic","link":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/research\/theme-1-takatsuka\/","title":{"rendered":"Generating big data on marine particles using event-based vision sensors (EVS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Overview of the Initiative<\/h2>\n<p>In this project, we are working to establish a new technological foundation that utilizes EVS to directly and rapidly observe and analyze the movements of underwater particles and microorganisms\u2014phenomena that have been difficult to capture until now.In addition to conventional observations focused on concentration and abundance, by capturing \u201cwhat is moving and how,\u201d we are deepening our understanding of the marine environment and ecosystems, while also advancing applications in areas such as improving safety in the marine industry, conducting environmental impact assessments, and researching climate change.Furthermore, by developing a platform to analyze, store, and share the acquired data, we aim to realize a new marine observation infrastructure that can be widely utilized across a broad spectrum, from research to industrial applications.<\/p>\n<h2>Key Results in FY2025<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Environmental Impact Assessment for Seabed Resource Development<\/strong> \u2014 We participated in seafloor mobility tests of a manganese nodule harvester conducted by the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and Marine Resources Development Co., Ltd. (DORD), and conducted field observations of the plume generated by the harvester and the biological response.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Initiatives to Address Climate Change<\/strong> \u2014 We participated in the research project \u201cEnvironmental Changes in the Southern Ocean around East Antarctica and the Responses of Biogeochemical Cycles and Lower-Tiers Ecosystems,\u201d led by Professor Naomi Harada of the University of Tokyo, and installed a moored instrument to conduct long-term observations over the course of one year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research Presentation<\/strong> \u2014 We presented our research findings at nine academic conferences and international meetings, including the Underwater Minerals Conference 2025 and the Ocean Sciences Meeting 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Future Outlook<\/h2>\n<p>We aim to build a platform that integrates functionality for analyzing data on plankton and aggregates online with a database for storing and sharing the analyzed data.<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-12","research_topic","type-research_topic","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research_topic\/12","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research_topic"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/research_topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research_topic\/12\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":30,"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research_topic\/12\/revisions\/30"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/marine-bigdata.jp\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
